First you set up [https://anyregis.nbtc.go.th/sign_up/foreigner/ create an account here]. As soon as your e-mail address has been confirmed, you can already enter your contact details and address in Thailand. For the actual registration of your drone, however, a photo of the entry stamp is required, which you will receive in your passport upon arrival. You can therefore only complete the NBTC registration in the country.
The cost of drone registration with the NBTC is around 200 baht and must be paid into a Thai bank. Krung Thai Bank is a good place to make this deposit. Note that not all Thai banks allow payment of the NBTC fee.

General information

Most camera drones require two separate registrations: One with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), which takes care of the frequencies used by the drone. The second registration is with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), which covers all drone pilots. [1]

CAAT

Before your trip, you should plan ahead online and visit the CAAT drone portal. This step serves to register the person or agent who will be responsible for the drone and gives the authorities time to understand who you are and what your intentions are.

If you are an individual (visitor or citizen), you must do the following:

  • Complete the CAAT registration form. (Note that this only works with Google Chrome and you will need to specify whether you are a citizen, visitor, legal representative or government agency as the information requested is different). Check the drop-down menu on the left side of your screen to see all the options, then go to the bottom right.
  • Download the Unmanned Vehicle Registration Application Form and Self-Declaration Form, fill them out and send them to atreg@caat.or.th or tl.erd@caat.or.th. If you need an update, call them on (+66) 0 2568 8815.
  • Attach a valid ID and proof of address.
  • Show your drone insurance copy (as described above).
  • Attach photos of your drone with at least one with the serial number clearly visible.[2]

If you are caught flying without a CAAT registration, you could face up to 1 year in prison and/or a fine of 40,000 THB (approx. 1,200 euros).
