General information
The Civil Aviation Committee of the Republic of Armenia has initiated the drafting of a new regulation on the safe operation and registration of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The regulation does not apply to unmanned aerial vehicles weighing less than 250 grams, unmanned toy aircraft (for children) and the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in private enclosed areas. Persons under the age of 14 may operate drones under the supervision of an adult.
The regulation will be available shortly. Until then, please note the general requirements:
DO NOT
- Do not make any modifications to the drone unless they have been approved by the manufacturer.
- Do not fly higher than 50 meters above ground level unless you have obtained permission from the Civil Aviation Authority.
- Do not operate the unmanned aircraft in the evening, at night, or during the dark season.
- Do not operate unmanned aircraft over cities, roads, parks, or in airspace where the operation of unmanned aircraft has been temporarily restricted. Do not operate unmanned aircraft in congested or crowded areas.
- Do not operate unmanned aircraft over buildings or playgrounds, or in the immediate vicinity of traffic, high-voltage power lines, or radar installations.
- Do not operate the unmanned aircraft near aircraft, airports, or airfields. The horizontal distance from a controlled restricted area of an airfield must not be less than 7 km.
- Do not operate unmanned aircraft for unlawful
REQUIREMENTS
- Be sure to comply with the requirements of the existing 56N GDCA Regulation of 2007 (updated in 2016).
- Ensure that you have adequate insurance coverage.
- Inspect your drone before every flight; make sure that your drone’s electronic identification and geofencing system (if installed) is up to date.
- Operate your drone within the performance limits specified in the manufacturer’s manual. Before operating the unmanned aircraft, ensure that all its components are functioning properly.
- Maintain constant visual contact with the unmanned aircraft without using any aids (telescope, binoculars, electro-optical image intensifier). It is prohibited to operate unmanned aircraft at an altitude of more than 50 m above the ground or water surface without special permission.
- Familiarize yourself with the area where you intend to operate your drone and plan your flight.
- Check the weather conditions. Operating unmanned aircraft in adverse weather conditions can be dangerous for both you and those around you and may damage the device.
- Notify the Civil Aviation Authority if your drone is involved in an accident in which a person is seriously or fatally injured, or that involves a manned aircraft.[1]
