General information

The Civil Aviation Committee of the Republic of Armenia has initiated the drafting of a new regulation on the safe operation and registration of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The regulation does not apply to unmanned aerial vehicles weighing less than 250 grams, unmanned toy aircraft (for children) and the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in private enclosed areas. Persons under the age of 14 may operate drones under the supervision of an adult.

The regulation will be available shortly. Until then, please note the general requirements:

DO NOT

  • Do not make any modifications to the drone unless they have been approved by the manufacturer.
  • Do not fly higher than 50 m above the ground unless authorized by the Civil Aviation Committee.
  • Do not operate the unmanned aircraft in the evening, at night or during the dark season.
  • Do not operate unmanned aircraft over cities, roads, parks and in airspaces where the operation of unmanned aircraft has been temporarily restricted. Do not operate unmanned aircraft in congested and crowded areas.
  • Do not operate unmanned aircraft over buildings and playgrounds, in the immediate vicinity of traffic, power lines and radar installations.
  • Do not operate the unmanned aircraft in the vicinity of airplanes, airports and airfields. The horizontal distance to the controlled restricted area of an airfield must not be less than 7 km.
  • Do not operate unmanned aircraft for unlawful purposes.

REQUIREMENTS

* Be sure to follow the requirements of the existing 56N GDCA regulation from 2007 (updated 2016).
  • Make sure you are adequately insured.
  • Check your drone before each flight; make sure your drone's electronic identification and geo-warning system (if installed) is up to date.
  • Operate your drone within the performance limits specified in the instructions provided by the manufacturer. Before operating the unmanned aircraft, make sure that all its elements are working properly.
  • Maintain visual contact with the unmanned aircraft at all times without using any aids (telescope, binoculars, electro-optical image intensifier). It is forbidden to operate unmanned aircraft at an altitude of more than 50 m above the ground or water surface without special authorization.
  • Familiarize yourself with the area in which you intend to operate your drone and plan your flight.
  • Check the weather conditions. Operating unmanned aerial vehicles in unfavorable weather conditions can be dangerous for both you and the people around you and can damage the device.
  • Inform the civil aviation authority if your drone is involved in an accident in which a person is seriously or fatally injured or which involves a manned aircraft.
